My persuasive essay is about leadership in the movie Remember the Titans. It answers the question: Who is a better leader? Coach Boone or Coach Yoast? I’m having some major problems with naming it.

This is my essay:
"Win or lose… We gonna walk out of this stadium tonight with our
heads held high. Do your best. That’s all anybody can ask for."

Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. In the movie Remember the Titans, based on a true story, Alexandria’s schools are integrating and three high schools are brought together as one. An African-American replaces a white coach as the head football coach and throughout the movie, their leadership skills and character are challenged as they both face obstacles. Previously, Coach Boone was fired from his head coach position, with the school board claiming that “it was not ready for a black head coach.” Three years later, he is offered the head coach position and Coach Yoast becomes an assistant coach, initially protesting because he does not want to work under a black coach. Although both coaches are great leaders and have played a major role in the Titans’ success, Coach Boone displays better leadership. He has the ability to bring out the best in people and he never gives up, facing racism with a strong head-on attitude. He always treats everybody fairly, demanding the best from everybody, regardless of their skin colour.

The strongest leaders of the world all have the ability to bring out the best in people. Coach Boone is a better leader, because of his strong persistence in making everybody on the team respect each other and coaxing their best qualities out of them. Without this important quality, the Titans would not have played like a team. Instead, they would have only looked out for themselves, like the way Julius Campbell acts like when he first starts out in football camp. At football camp, Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell become best friends (even calling each other blood brothers when Julius visits Gerry in the hospital) and they become more open-minded, realizing that nothing could separate blacks and whites. Coach Boone constantly demands perfection, continually raising the Titans’ standards. He is very harsh, forcing his players to get past the strong mental barriers they have implanted in their heads with demanding warm-ups and practices. This is shown in football camp when the whistle is blown and Coach Boone asks, "What is pain?" and the football players respond with French bread. During one of the football games, he gives Ronnie ‘Sunshine’ Bass a speech, in which he says that his siblings needed him when his parents died and the team needs Sunshine tonight to make the pitch. Encouraged, Sunshine wins the game for the Titans. While bringing out the best in his players, he teaches the team to never give up and to fight for what you believe in.

A characteristic of a great leader is treating everybody fairly. When Coach Yoast takes aside Petey Jones and gives him a patronizing talk that encourages him to play better, Coach Boone says that although he is a mean cuss, he’s the same mean cuss to everybody. "You ain’t doin’ these boys a favor by patronizing them. You crippling them; you crippling them for life," he says to Coach Yoast and that could not be more true. The world and the people in it are not there to satisfy the role of Patronizing Encourager. They have to learn that there is no limit and that only they (nobody else) can make their dream attainable and fulfill all their goals. Coach Boone does not coddle any of his football players and teaches them how to fend for themselves and to be tough. An example of Coach Boone treating everybody the same and not giving any preferential behavior to the black football players (like Gerry Bertier initially thinks) is when Petey is playing badly in the first Titans game. Coach Boone yells at him, "You’re killing me, Petey! You’re killing me!" Another good example is the harsh football camp that Coach Boone runs to eliminate football players. There is no difference in the way he treats people of different race. When Blue Stanton says he’s tired and they need a water break, Boone says that they’ll do up-downs until Blue isn’t tired or thirsty. People might say that Coach Boone is too harsh and that treating everybody fairly does not make or break a leader. However, Boone believes that the only way to improve someone is to harden him or her and that this constructive criticism given by Coach Yoast only weakens them, providing them little defense in the real world. Coach Boone displays strong leadership and strong leadership does not crumble under pressure. Weak leadership, however, does. To be a strong leader, you must not give preferential treatment or inflict bias on anybody. Coach Boone, unlike Coach Yoast, does not see skin colour like the other coaches do; he only sees football players and skin colour does not come into his decision to
Sorry, the essay got cut off. It’s too long. =.= But you should get the basic gist of it.

"Fear kills more people than death" General George Patton .

Master success coach, Steve Chandler said, " The world’s best kept secret is that on the other side of your fear there is something safe and beneficial waiting for you. If you pass through even a thin curtain of fear you will increase the confidence you have in your ability to create your life."

Your ability to confront your fears is one of the most important keys to staying motivated. Because when you back away and do nothing, fear can quickly dominate your thinking and you emotions.

Everyone has fears and it takes courage to confront them. Mark Twain said, "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not – absence of fear." When you’re afraid, you have two choices: to do nothing and let fear fester like a cancer, or deal with it immediately. Can it be difficult? Of course it can, but the alternative to constant worry and pain is much worse.

I know the common ones, but I need some that this excerpt derives from, you know? Thanks again !

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and sound mind.

In the tennis world, Roger Federer is the unrivaled greatest of all time while still at the age of 28! He hardly seemed the hard-working type, and even if he thinks he trains hard, I will doubt Andy Murray or Nadal would agree.

He now has 2 kids to take care of, his coach is his wife, I doubt his desire to win outweighs other competitors and he still beat Andy Murray in straight sets! Who has a team of coaching staffs and a training schedule that should kill a man! On top of that, he has been injury-free throughout his career!

In a world where we are told to work hard and more importantly work smart, it only shows that no matter how hard an individual trains, there will be some God-given talent that lucked out in the gene pool or a pure luck-box in life to claim all the glory, all the limelight, all the fame, love and money.

Lets make it clear that I am not a Federer-hater, but I am jealous of/bitter-at the success he enjoys, especially so with a lot less effort than his competitor. Same applies to the lucky individuals in the world.

This is also a philosophical question, if you have any philosophical quotes or viewpoints derived from yourselves or from philosophers, please puke it alll out here.

I agree with you that God made Roger Federer talented because there is nothing he can’t do with the tennis ball. However, that talent is backed up with a lot of hard work. Just because he doesn’t sweat, it doesn’t mean he is not working hard. He can get lucky in one of the tournaments not in all the tournaments. Also he has the correct technique to play each shot so his game looks effortless.

Roger is injury free because he picks and chooses his tournament. He mentioned in one of the interviews that he refuses to get lured by the money offered by some of the tournaments. The ATP requires you to play at least 18 tournaments if I am not mistaken. He has been very selective about choosing tournaments and that’s why he is injury free. The fame, love and money all comes with the success.

He dictated Andy Murray right from the first point at Aussie Open and Andy Murray did pick it up at the last stages of the match but it was too late by then. You are right about Andy Murray’s team of coaching staffs. He seems to have more people working for him than Barack Obama but that is not going to do it. His team can help him condition for the match but when it comes to playing Roger in a Grandslam he has to take many decisions on the court depending on Roger’s tactics.

It’s the other players who have to step it up against Roger at the grandslams and take it to him and once that happens the trophies will be distributed equally and life will be fair for everybody.

Although there are slight differences in Pigskin Empire, the general rules of the game are the same as in real life. In the college game they have added a playoff system. This system takes the winners of the 11 conferences plus the 5 best at-large teams and runs a single-elimination playoff. The pro game is mostly the same but they use the college rules for overtime situations.

The first step to building a team is getting your players. There are a few ways to do this in both college and the pros. In the college game you fill your roster by recruiting high school and junior college players or from players transferring from other colleges. Pro teams build their roster through the Draft, picking up free agents and through trades with other pro teams.

The season is over! Got something for baseball?

I think my calling in life is to be a life coach but am not sure how to go about it I don’t have a college education but through out my life I have always been able to help people get their life back on track. I have looked in the yellow pages in my area and there are none I have researched it online and it seems like a bunch of scams. I have alot of experience and quite a few success stories peoplehat no one else could help and every one else gave up on be successful today I am interested in listening to people and advising them on which drection to take I don’t want to be a doctor because I don’t like blood/needles or anything like that and I am already 33 with a family/house to run but I think I could do this on my time and make it a full time career as my kids get older and need me less. Any ideas

Hi! Great question…

I am a life coach and I know that you do not need any previous training to become one and you will be able to work from home- around your schedule.

I would get certified as a life coach as clients will want to know that you are certified.

To become certified and work from home I would look for a program that offers training you can do from your home around your busy schedule and yet has 24 hour support if you have questions.

You will also want to learn about marketing so make sure your program teaches that as well.

I recommend taking a look at http://www.CoachTrainingAcademy.com. They are awesome!

Also, FYI, coaches earn about $100.00/hour and this is just the starting rate. So it is great to help people and earn a living:)

Thanks…

I am actually looking forward to get a list of "Valuable" books that I would buy for my about-to-set-up personal library. Please feel free to recommend any or all of the valuable "Life coaching philosophical books" you may have come across and thought "WOW!"

Thank you buddy!

The Secret by Rrhonda Byrne is a great write.

I personally found ‘the Alchemist’ and ‘The Zahir’ by Paulo Coelho very inspiring as well.

Do you think that an expert life coach and help you get success in life, motivate you?

Hi there.
As a life coach, I strongly believe in the power of having a coach in your life. What a life coach will do, is understand your particular needs, strengths and will work with you to get you to where you want to be in more time effective way. It is great to talk to someone who is unbiased, will provide feedback and hold you accountable to the goals you have set.
To transform your life, it requires you to let go of some limiting beliefs, while holding on to your values. In transforming, you change the way in which you think so as to allow you a greater freedom in thought processes. This allows you to take risks and continue grow further.
Life Coaching and transformational coaching go hand in hand. As you make small changes in your life, you work towards transforming and metamorphosis.

Anyone had any success?

Dear Friend,

i have tried a career as a life coach and i can tell you from personal experience that it is absolutely bogus. It is very difficult to get into, you have to be charismatic, be able to sell yourself really well. It just isn’t a real viable career option.
