what does this quote mean?

the secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes
PLEASE HURRY!

That means life/God just doesn’t hand you over everything, it only gives you opportunities and it’s your job to jump on them. If you do you succeed, if you don’t then you’re stranded and you have to wait till the next boat comes along.

at the moment, i dont know i feel like im getting know where, stuck in a rut, everyday seems like an effort to get up as i have nothing going for me in life and im only 21.

is there light under the tunnel or should i hang on to hope?

I used to be really depressed, too. Can I share a little about my life with you? I grew up in an abusive home. I was desperate for someone who would love me! Through all my pain I came to Jesus, and he is the best Friend I could ever want! He loves you more than anyone else can.
When we went our own way instead of his, we chose separation from him, which will ultimately land us in Hell forever. But God loves us so much, he made a way for us to come back to him! He became a man, Jesus, so he could take our punishment for us by dying for us. He is the only one who could take the punishment for our sins because he is the only one who never did anything wrong. We broke his Law but He paid our fine! All you have to do is accept what he did for you as full payment for your sins and ask him to forgive you. If you want to be his, you have to give up everything that comes between you and him. He is so worth giving up everything for! If you give your life to him, he will never leave you or forsake you. He will laugh with you and cry with you. He will take your hand and walk with you! You can get to know him by faith, by talking to him, and by reading his letter to you, the Bible. The book of John is a good place to start!
There’s a great youtube called Everything Skit by Lifehouse! :)

Is it by how much money you earn? is it by happiness? is it by fame? etc.. What is your point of view? since I am confused what is the real success in life I just put this question. in our area people measure the success by wealth rather than anything else. thnx

I would define success as visible achievement.

For an achievement to be visible, it must be rare and backed up by obvious efforts. For it to be rare, there must be reasonably high risk involved in it. Efforts become obvious when they are sustained with patience and perseverance.

I would therefore conclude that the secret to success is to aim for something special and different and put in hard work behind it. Positive results are not automatically guaranteed since the special aim would naturally be fraught with high risks, which means that a lot of patience and perseverance needs to sustain the hard work. And yes, there is also a need for wisdom to know when to change gears and if necessary, to abandon an unsuccessful aim in order to hook on to another alternative aim at the appropriate time and circumstances.

Well, if all that looks tough, it is indeed to be expected…… success isn’t supposed to be any easy take by any stretch of imagination!!

Nevertheless, success merely helps boost our ego and self-esteem…. it has nothing to do with Happiness, which is the ultimate goal of life.

How old are the majority of you who answer?
I hope someone who is over 50 will answer too.
They will have some wisdom to share with us.

I am 63, and all of my life , I have owed all success joy and happiness to the God I serve.
To Jesus, who is the Lord of my life.
He is the reason for every victory.
Every success.
Thanks for asking.

Do you guys think that guys who graduate with the top GPAs, get the top SAT scores and get into a lot of the top colleges usually succeed in life? (financially and emotionally)

Is this always true, most of the times true, sometimes true or is high school too early to tell?

it all depends on what you consider a success. a lawyer can devote himself to pro bono work with the poor or defend the likes of O.J. simpson, a Dr. can work all his life for the peace corps. or make lots of money prescribing prozac and viagra. a banker can work equitably with the public or he can do what those at A.I.G. did. what are your parameters of success? some people are very happy with moderate incomes and happy families. some have a need to satisfy their meglomaniacal tendencies and are quite happy with their lust, greed, and social callousness.

Like lets say someone graduates high school with a HIGH SAT score and a 4.0 GPA, also this person has been accepted into the top colleges,

do you think that the person will be successful in life and will make a lot of money?

Depends on your definition of success.

If you define success as making money, I believe you have already failed.

Like lets say someone graduates high school with a HIGH SAT score and a 4.0 GPA, also this person has been accepted into the top colleges,

do you think that the person will be successful in life and will make a lot of money?

Not at all. I have seen Valedictorians go down the path and crumple, I have seen many just leave college because they were burned out by the time they left high school or they were too cocky when they got to college.

Now could it set you off on the right foot?

Of course, it can get into a good college. Then again if you do poorly in that college, then you will be working a 9 to 5 job not making that much.

In my opinion, college success determines success in life. I graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA, I slacked off and even when I tried I just didn’t get it. I got into an average university somehow and then I did great there, I attained my masters from MIT. Now I make about 120k per year. The guy who graduated valdedictorian from my school is unemployed right now and I even housed him. He is a good friend of mines, I admire him but now I am making more than him.

Some people just flourish late in their educational careers but as they say, better late than never.

We have standard to measure almost everything around us. We measure diamonds by carats, distance by miles, etc.. But we don’t have a standard to measure life itself.
Please let me know in a few words what you think the standard should be to measure your life.
Thanks.

Each person establishes their own individual standard. If they don’t, they’ve already failed.

Mine? I’m a success to the degree that I’ve contributed positively to the life of my nieces, my dogs, and my friends. When I breath my last breath, those are the only things I’ll be thinking about.

Yes, there are other, secondary factors. However, they do not have the importance that these three do.

Do you believe and or know that an ivy or other top-tier college/university produces more successful AND happier people than a college than a slightly lesser of a counterpart? Is it fair to say that the college you go to contributes to your overall enjoyment of life due to the career choices/life directions it takes you? I am questioning as to whether the stress, success, and attributes of top-tier graduates are good or bad. Examples would likely help. Thanks!

I would say that if you have a top tier education, that a place is more likely to hire you, yes. I have a very successful uncle who got a degree in music at Yale, and he now makes a lot of money orchestrating movies.

According to me,if we read the biography of successful persons they concentrate either in personal or career life .why they do not have time to share their Thoth’s and feelings with their spouse and kids?
